Rewiring a table lamp – help please?
Hello, sorry to sound very stupid (I find I am doing this more and more!) but wonder if I could ask for some advice. I have bought an old bakelite 1950s lamp from ebay which needs rewiring and I do not have an idea where to start! I wonder if this is a job that I can tackle (I am absolutely useless at anything DIY or electrical). My brother who used to help me with these things died last year and I don’t have anyone else to ask. Thanks.
I think that you have answered the question yourself, by stating that you are “absolutely useless at anything DIY or electrical”! Electrical equipment connected to the mains can KILL, that it is designed to be safe, may not apply if some part has been damaged or is missing or the unit is incorrectly assembled.
Yes, rewiring is a simple job, but you really need to know what you are doing and look for other faults in the equipment that you are repairing. You really should ask an electrical professional to do the job for you, it won’t be that expensive and may save you an early death.
